101 Rants is a different kind of public soapbox on a busy street corner. Wellington writers have written micro essays which were artfully displayed in slick lightboxes to create an illuminated 'shop window book' interrupting daily commuters and passersby and raised new ideas and challenges in public space.

Over the period of its installation some of the writers performed the works via megaphone to passersby and traffic, bringing new citizen ideas to the street.

Each essay or 'rant' functions as a form of visual art, as they are visually appealing but each can be read and absorbed in around thirty seconds.

The essays have been written for this local environment - the place where the artists live and work, addressed to the local arts and city community who pass them by.

The project was first presented in a different incarnation at BATS Theatre in 2019. This UDB project features the work of Freya Daly-Sadgrove, Matt Fairhurst, Marcus McShane and Zoe Higgins.
