The Idleness Labouritory, a 24-hour occupation took place from 6:30pm Tuesday the 8th through to 9pm Wednesday the 9th of March.
“Reading Labours” was a participatory durational performance that inhabited the interior space of Wellington’s Performance Lab for a continuous 24-hour period.
Twelve participants committed to inhabiting the Lab, locked in, to undertake acts of vocalised reading of selected published texts on topics of idleness, labour, durational performance, oration and poetry, and performance writing and reading. Jointly the participants committed to ensure that the act of reading would always be present and continuous over the 24-hour duration.
he space was active as a display case of literary and artistic exercise. Affording the public an opportunity to engage passively with the act of performance inside the space.
