Kei te whakaari ngā kamu waiata o Ngā Wātene Māori o Te Whanganui-a-Tara.

The Māori Wardens Kaupapa is… “Aroha ki te tangata, for the love of the people”. Wardens have been operating under the Māori Community Development Act 1962. Today there are approximately 900 Māori Wardens who volunteer their time to supporting others in our communities. Although times have changed, we are here to support māori whānau, to be a calming presence in times of trouble, to connect people with support and social services and to be a friend. The strength of Māori Warden’s is their intimate knowledge of, and close connection to their local communities. The guiding principles of a Māori Warden is respect, awhi, aroha, and whānaungatanga.

To see more about the Māori Wardens and the work they do, watch this wonderful documentary on Māori Television

Join our Te Whanganui-a-Tara Māori wardens for a night time singalong… best thing is you don’t need to know the words as they’ll be up karaoke styles! There will be some classic waiata and some good old party songs. It’s free to participate and there will be spot prizes.

JUST WALK UP AND JOIN IN WHĀNAU… YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO MISS IT!
